Why this wild Cycladic island may be the better Santorini

—if you navigate closely

Many people may recognize the name Milos from the acclaimed seafood restaurant chain across the globe. I first heard “Milos” in 2017 from Greek friends who whispered the name, as if it were a treasure they hoped I would keep. We first came to the island right before the Greek Easter to film our first travel series in 2018 (still a classic, filled with pure beauty and joy). Within days of this filming trip, I had seen those unreal natural wonders across the island and met Antonis, Maggie, and the circle that would become family. Leaving felt wrong. I kept returning.

On paper, Milos is a volcanic island in the far southwest of the Cyclades, home to a few thousand people and more than seventy beaches. The shape of the island is almost identical to Santorini's, but much flatter. In life, it’s a study in contrasts: heavy industry braided with hospitality, ancient ritual with everyday sea life. The island is shaped by unique landscapes, silence, and colors. If Santorini is a grand stage, Milos is the film you live inside.

Unlike guides written at a glance or skin-deep selections, this story was shaped by seasons spent on Milos: through friendships, rituals, and countless returns that turned the island into a second home. What makes it different is not only what we’ve seen, but how we’ve lived it. This connection unlocks stories and memories far beyond the postcard, curated into a visual and editorial journey for those who want to feel, not just visit, and for our circle, a deeper passage into the island’s most intimate pulse and truths.
